The public is invited to join the Damascus American Legion Family and members of local Girl and Boy Scouting organizations for a special U.S. Flag retirement ceremony on Saturday evening, May 11, 2019. The ceremony begins at 6 PM, at our Post Home at 10201 Lewis Drive in Damascus 20872. With help from the Girl Scouts, we will adhere strictly to the prescribed process for disposing of worn and unusable American Flags with dignity and respect. This is an excellent opportunity for your children and grandchildren to learn about this aspect of being an American. The Damascus Volunteer Fire Department, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 171, and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 171 will assist the Post, and refreshments will be served following the ceremony. If you desire to have your Flag retired, please drop it off behind the Post home not later than May 11th. For those attending, please park in front of the Post Home and walk around to the rear of the building where the ceremony will be conducted.
