Community-strengthening programs and services are the focus of “El Momento Cívico/The Civic Moment,


ROCKVILLE, Md., October 25, 2018— Mayra Cruz-Solis, legislative aide and outreach coordinator for the Office of Council Vice President Nancy Navarro; Diego Uriburu, executive director of the nonprofit organization Identity; Renato Mendoza, policy and community engagement manager at Identity; and Luis Martinez, diversity outreach coordinator for the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will be the featured guests on “El Momento Civico/The Civic Moment” on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (Tuned in with the Montgomery County Council), airing on Friday, October 26 at 2:30 p.m. on Radio America (WACA 1540AM). The guests from Identity will discuss the programs and services that Identity offers, including the Parent Leadership Program and various advocacy initiatives. They will also talk about the upcoming Latino Community Forum with special guest Dr. Jack Smith, superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools.

Luis Martinez will discuss the programs and services offered by DHHS to low-income residents, as well as services to protect children and vulnerable adults.

“El Momento Cívico/The Civic Moment” is one component of Council Vice President Navarro’s Latino Civic Project that features topics related to civic engagement and understanding the various functions of County government. Council Vice President Navarro started the Latino Civic Project in 2012 to promote and strengthen civic participation among Latinos and immigrants.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
